As the offseason unfolds, dynasty fantasy managers find themselves facing a perplexing situation with Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields. In the real world of NFL football, Fields’ performance as a starting QB has been below average, marked by questionable decision-making and inconsistent passing. However, in the realm of fantasy football, Fields has been more effective, mainly due to his rushing upside, offering week winning performances, but at the cost of inconsistent play.

From last year’s trade with the Carolina Panthers, the Bears have the 1st overall pick, and are projected to take the current top-ranked quarterback prospect, Caleb Willaims. With this move looming, it appears increasingly likely that the Bears will part ways with Fields sooner rather than later.

As NFL free agency progresses, potential landing spots for Fields as a starter are dwindling. Teams like the Falcons, Steelers, Raiders, and Patriots were once considered possibilities, but recent offseason moves have closed many of these doors. The Raiders’ acquisition of Gardner Minshew, the Steelers’ Russel Wilson, and the Patriots’ possession of the third overall pick make them less probable destinations. Even the Vikings, despite their need at quarterback, are unlikely due to divisional rivalry and their positioning in the draft.

Given the current landscape, it’s probable that Fields will be demoted to a backup role for another team, either through a trade later in the offseason or when another team’s starter goes down during the regular season. For dynasty fantasy managers, this presents a challenging dilemma.

One option is to hold onto Fields and hope he recoups value as a fill-in starter elsewhere. Despite his struggles, Fields has demonstrated fantasy upside in the past, which could serve as a selling point. Alternatively, managers may choose to sell now, albeit at a low value, banking on Fields’ previous potential as a fantasy asset at the quarterback position.

In either case, dynasty fantasy managers face a difficult decision regarding Justin Fields. Whether holding onto hope for a resurgence or capitalizing on his previous upside, the path forward is far from clear. As the offseason unfolds and Fields’ situation clarifies, fantasy managers must navigate this uncertain terrain with careful consideration.
